Restoration Returns Grant| United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) G20 Global Land Initiative
Objective:
To support community-led ecosystem restoration initiatives that have a high return for people, their lands, and livelihoods, as part of the G20 GLI’s strategy to restore 1 billion hectares of degraded land by 2030 and reduce land degradation by 50 per cent by 2040.
Deadline:
15 September 2025
Eligibility criteria:
- Projects must focus on land restoration (e.g., reforestation, afforestation, sustainable agriculture, soil improvement, waste management, rewetting peatlands, etc.).
- Restoration activities can take place in any landscape (forests, grasslands, drylands, croplands, mangroves, peatlands, tundra, wetlands, etc.) and in any country worldwide.
- Priority consideration will be given to submissions of civil society organizations from developing and least developed countries.
- Both proposed and ongoing projects may be considered, though preference is given to ongoing operations.
- Organizations must have an annual budget greater than USD 25,000.
- The grant cannot be the sole source of funding; stand-alone projects solely depending on this grant will not be supported.
- Multi-year support may be considered depending on demonstrated progress.
- Only organizations are eligible, not individuals.
- Organizations must be accredited with the UNCCD, or have accreditation in process at the time of application.
- The UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification) is the only legally binding international agreement that addresses desertification, land degradation, and drought.
