Objective:

The Minor Foundation for Major Challenges (MFMC) is a Norwegian philanthropic organization dedicated to supporting innovative communication projects that promote the transition to a low-carbon economy and mitigate climate change. The foundation funds projects that use new or unexpected ways to communicate the urgency of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, especially those that generate systemic change and reach under-engaged audiences.

Large grants are aimed at bold, strategic initiatives—typically between EUR 20,000 and EUR 200,000—that support structural transformation through communication. This includes influencing public or private policies, boosting the visibility and adoption of climate solutions, reducing fossil fuel use, and fostering positive mobilisation around climate action aligned with the 1.5°C pathway.

Eligibility criteria:

• Only organisations may apply (not individuals)
• Projects must align clearly with MFMC’s strategy
• Only European-based organisations are eligible (exceptionally, non-European projects may be considered)
• The foundation does not support commercial ventures, local-only or research-based initiatives, or general information campaigns
• Projects focused solely on individual behaviour change are not eligible unless embedded in a wider political or systemic strategy
• Applicants must submit a short description to the foundation before accessing the application portal

Eligible countries:

Primarily European countries (only exceptional non-European projects may be considered)

Project duration:

Usually one year; longer durations must be well justified

Grant amount:

Typically between EUR 20,000 and EUR 200,000 (larger projects may be considered)
