Great Forests of Mesoamerica – Call for Projects for Biodiversity Conservation | Expertise France
Objective:
To support the contribution of Mesoamerican NGOs and academic or research entities and their international or local partners to the conservation and monitoring of biodiversity in strategic areas of the Great Forests of Mesoamerica. The call promotes local participation, innovation, traditional knowledge, inclusive governance, and ecosystem resilience.

Concept note: May 16, 2025
Full application (for pre-selected applicants): July 18, 2025
Eligibility criteria:
- Be a non-profit legal entity established in one of the following countries: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, or Panama
- Have at least two years of proven experience in biodiversity conservation in Mesoamerica
- Promote gender and rights-based approaches
- International NGOs (including French NGOs) can participate only as partners, not as lead applicants unless they are legally established in an eligible country
Eligible countries:
Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama
Targeted regions: La Selva Maya, El Trifinio, La Moskitia, Tortuguero, La Amistad, El Darién
Project duration:
Between 12 and 18 months
Grant amount:
- Single-country actions: €40,000 to €60,000
- Multi-country actions: €100,000 to €180,000

Additional information:
Only concept notes are accepted in the first stage. Full proposals will be invited for shortlisted applicants. Projects must align with the thematic priorities listed in the call (e.g. biodiversity conservation, community governance, sustainable production models).
