Objectif :

To empower Project Implementers to facilitate new, lasting and sustainable protected or conserved areas that are in line with community and government needs and desires.

Critères d’éligibilité :

• The Project Implementer must be a legally registered non-government organization and authorized to conduct work in the country of the project.
• The primary objective must be the creation/expansion of a protected or conserved area.
• The proposed area must be currently unprotected and support globally significant biodiversity or climate mitigation.
• Demonstrated support from relevant governments, Indigenous Peoples and/or Local Communities, with Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) where applicable.
• A protection mechanism resulting in legal status change and a management system must be included.

Montant de la subvention :

• Feasibility Awards: average $10,000 (up to $20,000 exceptionally)
• Protected or Conserved Area Creation Awards: $250,000 and above

Informations supplémentaires :

The proposed areas should protect:

• Critically Endangered and Endangered species (KBA, AZE sites),
• Tropical and Sub-tropical High Integrity Forests,
• Tropical and Sub-tropical climate-critical habitats (peat swamps, mangroves, páramo).
  Protected or Conserved Areas can be achieved through various methods including legal designation, land titling, purchase, or OECMs.
