Job Description | |
Positioning and reporting Under the authority of the Director General, the Animal Health Information Analyst will work under the direct supervision of the WOAH Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, based in Tokyo, Japan as well as the Head of the World Animal Health Information and Analysis Department (WAHIAD) and his/her Deputy. He/she will work in close collaboration with other regional staff in RRAP and SRR-SEA and relevant WOAH Units and Departments in Headquarters. | |
Job purpose The Animal Health Information Analyst contributes to the publication of a transparent and coherent animal health situation in Members through the collection, verification and dissemination of animal health information provided by Members and non-member countries through the WOAH World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS). In particular, s/he is responsible for following the notification process of Members, as well as participating in other areas such as capacity-building activities on disease notification (training and e-learning support), active search for non-official animal health information activities, data management, and contributing to the improvement of WAHIS. | |
Missions and activities Contribute as required to the activities of the Regional Representative for Asia-Pacific, RRAP and WAHIAD teams, which include but are not limited to: Follow the WAHIAD reporting processes by designated countries or territories Participate in the active search for non-official animal health information (‘rumour tracking’ activity) of WAHIS Participate in data management activities – Implement specific technical actions (i.e., analysing, preparing, and validating report submissions) required for the (sub-)regional reporting approach within WAHIS, such as new ARAHIS. Participate in training activities |
Expériences / Formation
Qualifications and Experience
Required qualifications
– A graduate degree in a biology-related field (e.g. veterinary sciences, biology, health, animal sciences)
– At least 3 years of professional experience with data collection, processing, and analysis of (animal) diseases .
Desirable additional qualifications
– Exposure to or work experience with Veterinary Services, animal or human health institutions, research institutions.
– Additional degree in aquatic and/or terrestrial animal health, wildlife health, epidemiology or public health.
– Proven experience working with large datasets.
Other Requirements
Technical skills
– Excellent command of English, both written and oral.
– Very good command of the Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Additional desirable competencies
– Good computer skills in developing data visualisations (e.g. Power BI).
– Good computer skills in geographical information systems (e.g. QGIS).
– Good computer skills in database management systems (e.g. Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, Postgres).
– Good computer skills in statistical software (e.g. R).
Interpersonal skills
– Proactivity and initiative.
– Keen sense of observation, attention to detail and accuracy.
– Ability to work under pressure, and to efficiently prioritise work across multiple parallel tasks.

Salaire
Working conditions
– This post requires flexibility to travel internationally and long hours in a seated position at a computer.
– Salary: Base salary at 500,000 JPY/month (commensurate with qualifications and experience).
– Duration: Two (2) years (renewable).
