CLIMATE & ENVIRONMENTAL ADIVSOR X/H/F

Essential 

  • Fluent in French & English  
  • Academic background in environmental management or related field or an equivalent relevant training 
  • 2 years minimum experience in logistics or environmental management related activities 
  • 2 years experience at international NGO (field projects and coordination levels)  
  • Knowledge of data analytics (e-g. Power BI) 
  • Good command of project management & training related knowledge. 
  • Strong relationship skills 
  • Good understanding of MSF ways of working

Expériences / Formation

Carrying out environmental assessments of the missions in the region (in collaboration with coordination’s and RTS) to identify areas where environmental improvements can be made. This can include one or more of the following activities: 

  • Identifying the main environmental impacts of the mission and its projects based on data available, staff interviews, analysis of existing processes, and observations of practices. 
  • Assessing the compliance of mission activities with the existing national legal frameworks with regards to environmental protection, waste management and energy and any other environmental related issues. 
  • Gathering information on the national strategy for climate change mitigation in the health sector. 
  • Identifying existing stakeholders, including companies, organizations and other actors that could be relevant to support MSF to reduce its environmental footprint. 

 

Planning with the Mission coordination teams and RTS based in SUKA and developing a detailed plan of action to reduce the environmental impact of missions. These plans of action should include: 

  • Key activities to be taken to reduce Mission environmental footprint (including procurement, medical, fleet, construction, energy, travel, digital, waste and offices practices) and to adapt working environment (flooding risks, increased eat waves, etc.). 
  • Estimation of HR and Financial resources to be included in the mission Plan of Action, as well as the expected environmental benefits. 
  • Identify relevant Indicators and means to collect data. 
  • Define clear timeline and roles and responsibilities. 

 

Supporting the implementation of the activities contained in the plan of action. This can include one or more of the following activities: 

  • Raising awareness on environmental issues among staff and carrying out behavior change campaigns. 
  • Engaging internal and external stakeholders and facilitating transversal approaches. 
  • Ensuring technical environmental support. 

 

Monitoring the status of the implementation of activities and related key environmental performance indicators. This can include one or more of the following activities: 

  • Compiling data gathered into existing database (waste management tools, fleet wave, supply DB, etc.). 
  • Produce bi-annually monitoring reports. 
  • Propose improvement in monitoring. 

 

Innovation: Propose, design and support innovative initiatives related to climate and environment in the region. This can include, for example, to promote circular economy of waste. 

 

Operations: Provide expertise in environmental issues related to the operational activities. This can include: 

  • Gathering primary and secondary sources of information to support mission to have good understanding on the climate & environmental risks and related current and potential health impact in the context. 
  • Liaise with regional external and internal stakeholders working climate and environmental issues in the region. 
  • Support climate emergency preparedness in the region in collaboration with the Emergency units and the mission coordination.
