Senior Admin/Finance Officer – Uganda

Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was the first NGO focused on healthcare to be recognized by the Italian government. It is now one of the leading organization working to protect and improve the well-being and health of vulnerable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The NGO promotes long-term health cooperation projects, intervening also in emergencies to ensure that services are available to all.

Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently active in 8 Sub-Saharan countries: Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda.

The NGO supports public and non-profit hospitals, local districts, schools of nursing and midwifery, university faculties of medicine.

 

Job position: Senior Admin/Finance Officer
Location: Uganda, Moroto

Purpose of the role

Working closely with project managers, the Area Admin/Finance Manager will oversee the administrative management of the ongoing projects in the area, ensuring compliance with administrative and procurement procedures, preparing financial reports and supervising the management and maintenance of accounting by local accountants.

Key duties

  • oversee accounting
  • monitor projects’ expenditure and support project managers in planning and drafting periodic financial reports
  • ensure compliance with procurement procedures
  • ensure proper documentation of expenditures and financial transactions for reporting purposes
  • manage cash and bank accounts dedicated to the projects
  • supervise admin and logistics national staff
  • support project managers in preparing quarterly funding requests
  • guarantee that projects activities are properly documented
  • support project managers in the administrative management of local staff and take care of their contracts

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, University Degree in Economics or equivalent title
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Excellent knowledge of Italian (required)
  • Mastery in using accounting applications
  • Previous experience in admin/finance management of international cooperation projects in fragile countries and/or low resources settings
  • Adaptability to live and work in rural contexts

Terms of Contract

Type of contract: collaboration contract
Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the job position, with possible increase based on professional experience)
Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work, for contracts longer than 4 months
Flight ticket: one return flight for the first collaboration for up to 12 months
Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs
Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa, professional registration, work and residence permits
Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it is generally individual, depending on the logistical situation and the availability of accommodation in the workplace
Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker
Family policy: where the socio-political context and logistics allow it, international staff may be accompanied by their partner or family. In this case, the NGO provides a salary supplement and guarantees flights, health insurance, visas and permits for dependents and accompanying family members.
