Senior Child Poverty Humanitarian Adviser


12 months Fixed Term Contract (renewable year on year)

We are looking for an experienced and strategic individual to join us as Senior Child Poverty Humanitarian Adviser. You will be a key member of the Child Poverty Global Theme Core Team which coordinates, facilitates and supports the work of Save the Children members, regional and country offices.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Senior Child Poverty Humanitarian Adviser you will lead the development of the humanitarian strategic plan for Child Poverty based on the overarching thematic strategy. You will ensure adequate and consistent Child Poverty thematic input into Save the Children’s humanitarian response and recovery strategies, reviews and evaluations. In addition you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and guide the operational response leadership of the FSL and Shelter Humanitarian Technical Working Groups (HTWGs)
  • Maintain an overview of backstopping to humanitarian responses and help mobilize member resources
  • In collaboration with HTWG co-chairs, engage members, regional offices and countries offices to identify capacity building priorities
  • Provide technical leadership to strategic research and evidence generation on Save the Children’s humanitarian work in Child Poverty
  • Provide technical steer to global humanitarian child poverty related advocacy, representation and external communications.

As Senior Child Poverty Humanitarian Adviser you will have significant experience and a track record of success in designing, implementing, advising, monitoring and evaluating quality humanitarian child poverty programmes. With a high degree of business and people acumen, you will have the ability to tailor communications to different audiences. In addition you will have:

  • Demonstrable experience of strategy development and implementation
  • Significant experience of organisational level thought leadership in a relevant technical sector
  • Demonstrable success in facilitating and leading multi-cultural, multi-national working groups towards shared processes, accountabilities and results
  • Strong communication skills appropriate for high level external representation and the ability to tailor communications to different audiences
  • The ability to travel at short notice, occasionally to remote and insecure locations for up to 30% of work time.
