International Cooperation

The International Forum of National NGO Platforms

For five years, Coordination SUD has conducted an exchange and support program with national NGO platforms on five continents that led, in 2008, to the creation of the International Forum of National NGO Platforms (IFP) by eighty-two national NGO platforms and seven regional coalitions. Since 2008, the IFP has operated under the impetus of a “facilitation group” composed of ten platforms and coalitions, and a secretariat based in Coordination SUD. In 2010, IFP helped strengthen national NGO platforms and regional coalitions, and facilitated discussions among its members, notably through “non-governmental diplomacy (NGD) exercises” but also via the Forum’s website (www.ong-ngo.org), a quadrilingual tool for information, communication, cooperation and advocacy.

IFP held its first General Assembly (GA) in 2011. Held prior to the World Social Forum in Dakar in February 2011, it made it possible to assess the outcome of the transitional period (2009-2010) and examine IFP’s prospects and actions, its structure, and its emergence as a permanent and international organization. The year 2011 will therefore be a decisive stage for IFP in regard to its support and the definition of its bodies and future objectives.

The G8/G20 Working Group

The G8/G20 Working Group is an informal network of 352 organizations, including Coordination SUD, that mobilize for the G8 and G20 Summits. Initially composed primarily of Anglo-Saxon organizations, it has now grown to encompass other actors in developing and developed countries and other types of movements: farmers’ unions, research centres, platforms, etc.

Other Thematic Networks

Coordination SUD also cooperates internationally, either bilaterally with other platforms or other partners (networks, movements, unions, etc.) or by subject (on the EDF, ODA, aid effectiveness, innovative financing, etc.).

Notably, Coordination SUD currently belongs to European and global networks working on the subject of taxing financial transactions.
