European Cooperation

CONCORD

Coordination SUD is a member of CONCORD, the European NGO Confederation for Relief and Development. The Confederation’s primary objective is to increase European NGOs’ influence in European institutions, by combining expertise and representation. As European citizens, we have an obligation to help the people and civil organizations of developing countries improve their living conditions by providing them with financial and political support. By uniting, European development and relief NGOs commit themselves to keeping developing countries’ priorities high on the political agenda of developed country institutions, and European institutions in particular, and to making institutions aware of how their economic and political choices impact the most disadvantaged populations around the world.

CONCORD’s working groups are central to the Confederations’ working dynamic. There are currently more than fifteen working groups, which regularly bring together nearly 200 participants, members of CONCORD. Coordination SUD is present in most of these groups, notably the food security group, policy coherence, gender, climate, the policy forum, multiannual financial framework, Cotonou (monitoring the Cotonou agreement and the EDF), Aid Watch (monitoring European ODA), civil society organization effectiveness, NGO-EU financing, etc.

Coordination SUD’s European advocacy actions are conducted in close collaboration and synergy with CONCORD.

Voice

Voice is the European network of NGOs active in humanitarian aid. It is composed of eighty-three NGOs. It is European institutions’ primary interlocutor for issues pertaining to emergency aid, relief, rehabilitation and disaster preparedness. Coordination SUD’s Humanitarian Commission works in conjunction with this network on certain subjects. The members of the commission are also direct members of Voice.

Bilateral Links with National Platforms in Europe

Coordination SUD is attempting to forge, within CONCORD, bilateral ties and cooperation on activities with national NGO platforms. This is being done with the aim of pooling our practices and positions and strengthening the role of national platforms within CONCORD.
